Tomorrow! Join RDAC in supporting South Bronx activist Victor Toro

Tomorrow! Wednesday August 26, join RDAC as we support South Bronx community activist Victor Toro, who is facing deportation proceedings in US Federal Court... After fleeing a murderous regime in his native Chile more than 25 years ago, Victor Toro was declared dead by that military dictatorship, and thus lacked the documents to be granted political asylum in the US. After almost three decades in the South Bronx, the very same government that supported the murderous Chilean dictatorship that forced him here in the first place, now wants to deport him and separate him from his family and his community... Join us tomorrow at 12pm, 26 Federal Plaza, in Manhattan, we will say POLITICAL ASYLUM FOR VICTOR TORO, NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL!! More info on his case in video below:

Immigrant Festival a huge success!

The Immigrant Festival at Brook Park was a resounding success this past Saturday, with more than 300 community members attending. The community enjoyed free food, musical performances, and free health and blood pressure screenings. The Boricua, Mexican, Garifuna, South American, and Carribbean community in the South Bronx represented big! A big thank you to La Peña del Bronx, Taller Experimental de Arte, Friends of Brook Park, the volunteer doctors from Albert Einstein, the Garifuna community for preparing the delicious food, and Councilmember Melissa Mark Viverito, the only politician who ventured to support the event... Lookout for our next festival next month at St. Mary's Park!

Youth Speak-out at RDAC!

We had a packed house last Tuesday as the youth from the Choose to Change coalition came deep to support the Peace Through Words open mic. Youth did poetry, rapped, sang, and even staged a dramatic piece as they spoke out against violence in our South Bronx schools. Big ups to all the youth in attendance, who battled the heat to enjoy an evening of dope performances and a strong message for peace in our schools!
